Sweet HOME IN THE HILLS

We stayed in a finished barn with attached bath. The heat wasn’t up and running but we had a space heater on a timer and about 10 pounds of fluffy blankets. For the most part, we were either working in the gardens or hanging out in the main house, where we’d cook meals and ourselves by a large iron stove. The experience was more quiet than we were used to with the solitude and distance from town - but ended up giving us a restorative pause on our journey.
The work we performed was mostly focused on cleaning out the garden from last season’s growth and prepping for the coming spring - clearing brush, soaping up the poly-tunnels, turning vegetable beds and keeping an eye on growing fox-holes. We also did a bit of work inside - started to strip polyurethane off a dining table set, moved piles around ... the usual.
